If you're going to do any type of serious swap...Ford 9". It's light
but very strong and makes gear changes easy as well. (The DANA 80 is
rather overkill for the Dakota's.)

Dana 80 in a 4k lb. Dakota????
Major overkill, IMO. Why would you want to add all the weight, plus put
up with the lug pattern issue?
The 9.25" is probably pretty safe up to 450-500 rwhp or so, based on
guys who are already putting that amount of power through them without
issues.
