No, it doesn't get very cold. The top slides into a channel fairly easily
when it's warm and with more difficulty when it's cold. I let it sit in
the sun for a while if it's cold and don't have a problem with it. Also,
there are two levels at which the cover can be set. You may use the one
which would be less tight in warm weather when it's cold; it'll give you
more to work with since it's a lower (closer to the body) setting.
