Now that is interesting. The van weigh-in at 3900lbs loaded against a 4x4
Dakota. Hmm, something smell fishy.

Though, I do agree with some resentment. It lingers in me when I drive up
to the light in a huge quad truck or a sub-compact metro looking vehicle
when most drivers will opt for the other lane figuring it is a lame
performing vehicle.

Though, I usually get the last laugh when I about a block away slowed down
when most drivers finally make though the stop lights. LOL

Subject: DML: Pure embarassment... (Long, but easy reading.)

I almost had a Chevy Venture minivan get the
smack-down on my wife and I today in the Dak. We were
both side by side at a stoplight,in a 50 mph
zone, facing a little bit of an incline, waiting for the
green light. I didn`t expect any kind of competition
from this van at all,and let my guard
down,unfortunately. What I didn`t know was,she wanted
in my (right)lane so she could exit about 500 feet
ahead onto an Interstate. She apparently figured she
needed to cut in front of us in case no one behind us
would let her in,or maybe she just wanted to be the
leader of every lane she found herself in (yes, you`ll
notice there`s still some lingering resentment). :)
Anyway,it turned green. I accelerated moderately,and
catch her out of the corner of my eye pulling ahead of
us. Realizing what she`s up to,I accelerate harder, and
begin to close the gap. But then I get a little
mad, because I had to pretty much floor it and kick it
into passing gear to get ahead of her and keep her
from getting around us! This is a 4.7 V8 4x4
struggling against what,a 3.1 or 3.8 V6? I mean,I did
have the defroster running, but why did I have such a
hard time against her? She couldn`t have had more than
190 HP or so,right? I have 230,with 3.92 gears. What`s
going on? Fortunately, justice prevailed in that I did
manage to leave her behind me,and got onto the
Interstate ahead of her. I dialed it up to around 95
very quickly, and she could not keep up (although I
could tell she tried). Then I fell back down to 70 and
let her go by me,because I needed to take an exit. I
could feel her beady little eyes on me as she passed
by. Prolly have nightmares tonight about her, too. :(

I think the problem is,I need more mid-range
power, where my 4.7 seems a little deficient sometimes.
Seems like in the 2500-3500 rpm range it`s not really
that strong. The truck is bone stock except for a
cat-back exhaust,BTW. Any idea what I need to do? I
feel like I need to open a new chapter in my life. A
chapter where V8 trucks do not struggle against V6
soccermobiles!
