If you're just doing a fluid and filter change...yup, 6qts. (If you
remove the valve body...you'll need 8).

That should be a 42RE. The fluid/filter change should require 4 qts by

book, I would buy six just to be safe and have some for topping up
later. Should require one filter, right there in your face when you get
the pan off.
DO get a drain plug while you've got the pan off. They are inexpensive
(NAPA sells them for about $5) and will save you a *lot* of mess at
future
fluid changes! Just be careful about placement so the plug doesn't
interfere with any internals. I seal them up with a little RTV when
installed, just to absolutely stop any seapage.
