I'll throw my 2 cents in on this one.

To the best of my knowledge it's stated in the users manual that the truck
will run fine on 87octane gas and that there is no need to use any
higher-octane fuel. I also don't recall seeing in the manual anywhere that I
have to buy gas from specific gas stations, so I don't see how he can say
that it won't be covered based on what type of gas you use. Maybe before
taking it in to the dealer, try running an fuel injector cleaner through a
tank of gas. If it is an injector, the cleaner might be enough to clear up
the problem. It's just a thought. I doubt it would be the fuel filter as all
of your injectors would more than likely be acting up.

As for the maintenance part, as long as you have your oil change receipts
and routine maintenance receipts then I don't see how they can argue about
it being not covered by warranty. An excess build up of carbon sounds like
there is a larger problem at hand, and I think it is unprofessional for the
service rep to even try and diagnose the problem before even looking at the
truck.

Is it still a factory warranty or is it an aftermarket warranty that the
dealer sold you? You know the type of warranty you'd get if you bought the
truck used. I've heard the service manager at the dodge dealership that I
use refer to the aftermarket warranty that another Dodge dealer in town uses
as "not even worth the paper it's printed on". I think aftermarket
warranties are a legalized scam and that they are written in such a way that
the warranty company can get out of paying for just about everything. Of
course I'm sure this is probably not true for all aftermarket warranty
companies and I'm sure that there are some people out there that have had
good experiences. I'm only speaking from experience with other used vehicles
I've had in the past.

I could use your thoughts on a little situation I am having. My 8th
Cylinder is misfiring. My personal mechanic took a look at this, and
checked out all the simple reasons that might happen (spark plug, etc) and
he feels it may be an injector or a fuel issue.

I called my dealer to schedule this to be repaired, as I still have a
warranty, and the response I got was this:

" That might be caused by carbon buildup in the valves. If that's the case,
it wouldn't be covered. It depends on how well you maintain & what kind of
gas you are using. To fix that it's a few hundred. "

First, let me state I have used 87 or better gas in every vehicle I ever
owned, and I've never even heard of this before, never mind had a problem.
I also change my oil & maintain my vehicle above & beyond the norm. I just
had a maintenance done in July. My dak has 68K right now, and was running
perfectly until about 2 weeks ago, when the idle started feeling very rough,
and then a few days later I got the little SES dummy light. This is when I
took it to be looked at by my guy.

This sounds like a load of crap to me, and an easy way to try & rip off the
average person. After all, it's not like I could have much proof to use in
my defense, other than oil change receipts. I obviously need to get the Dak
fixed but I wanted some suggestions / opinions on this to see if my hunch
is right. This way if they try to pull a fast one on me I can go to
another dealer, etc.

I'd appreciate any feedback if anyone has any thoughts on this or if anyone
has ever had this problem ??
