A generator/welder will be a "stick" welder, or "arc" welder (same,
same). This is the hardest kind of welding for a beginner and the kind
that takes the most practice to do well. If you're going to weld heavier
steel, get a mig. If you really want to learn to arc weld, definately go
to a welding school.
