Sure Dan, because that would be your "effective" gear ratio. I seem to
recall that the stock tire diameter on my Dak was about 27" and I know I had
a 3.90 gear. If I changed that to a 28" tire, my "effective" gear ratio
would be 3.76. However,if I change the tire dia to 26", my "effective" gear
ratio would be 4.05. It would appear your truck came with the 3.90 gear.
Forgot to mention earlier....if it hasn't been lost over the years, there
should be a tag under one of the bolts on the rear end housing indicating
the gear ratio.
