Subject: Re: DML: Porting stock heads (Ray Block)
When I had a set of heads done for my v6... I probably went through 10 v6
heads to find a set of uncracked ones. They all cracked in the same spot,
between the intake and exhaust seats. The firts set I got I ordered off
ebay, didnt think to magnaflux them because I had never heard of this
problem before. I set them to marty and they both were cracked. I then
went to a few junkyards..and could see the cracks on the seats with the
naked eye... probably looked at 6 heads that way. Marty even picked up a
set of heads from a yard down by his shop for me and they were cracked also.
I do think it depends on the condition and use of the engine though. When
I pulled the heads off my 93 v6...that had over 110k miles on it but regualr
maintanance, the heads were not cracked. All the junk yard heads I saw you
could tell that they were most likely off fleet vehicles or work trucks that
had hard lifes... saw all the sludge build up around the springs and carbon
in the chambers.
The point of all this?... I dont know...just felt like adding..hehe
