Mark,

One thing I just remembered on checking the battery. If you have acces or
own a voltmeter put it on the battery. First start the truck and test the
voltage. Mine is a little over 13. Now turn off the truck. Sometimes when
the cell starts to go bad the voltage will drop down to right at or just
below 12 volts. On my good batteries the voltage always stays above 12.3
volts. I know there isn't much of a difference but that computer is really
picky about the voltage to run right. Usually 12 volts will get it to start
and idle but just below it will sometimes not start or if it does will die
again. Funny thing is there is enough voltage to turn the starter just fine
so it tries to crank strong. For some reason I usually have to replace the
battery every two years due to the cell going bad. BTW, mines a '96.
