When I was porter manager at a certain Tinley Park Chevy dealer... the cost
of the vehicle wasn't on the bill of lading. It basically just told you the
vehicle VIN, body type, color, and what number in the shipment total the
vehicle was. To find the REAL invoice price, we'd have to raid the sales
manager's office for the paperwork or look in the computer. It's all shown
in the inventory control system, and the shipping confirmation package from
chevy. They send the invoices after the cars are built, then you have to
sign for them before they'll ship. Basically you're approving your order,
b/c every car on the dealer lot is ordered. The dealer has to option the
cars out and they build them to the dealer's orders. They don't just put
them together however they want on the line as most people think.
