I would highly recommend cracking open the Wells
Ignition book at your local parts store (the picture
catalog, not the parts catalog) and look for the U
series solenoid at the end of the starter solenoid
parts listings. These are designed for continous duty
with ratings up to 80 amps and a little higher for
surge use. The standard starter solenoids are not
designed for continous use that the other series will
withstand. I have been using the U series (forget the
part number but can find it tomorrow) solenoids for
over four years now without having to change one yet.
I have used them on everything from driving lights
that standard 30 amp relays couldn't stand to flood
lights on tractors while turning dirt late at night.
So far none have malfunctioned. Granted now that I
brag on them, I will probably have to change all of
the tomorrow. ;o)
