Caution be damned, I got out the Torx wrenches last night and Viola! my tailgate latches on both sides now - Woohooo! Thanks for the info.

When my Line-X went on this weekend, he spent about 2 hours grinding &
reapplying to get the right thickness for the material on the bottom of
the tailgate. We have a *very* tight tolerance on these tailgates and
it's real easy to get them to where they won't latch.

If you can avoid it, I'd caution against adjusting the latch mechanism
to give you more slack room - even though it'll be latched, the gate
will be in a slightly un-natural position.
