Probably because people feel that things such as flowers may be a waste and
that if giving money, it will help with any immediate needs that a family
may have and they can use that as it is needed. Just my 2 cents.

serious question

Why when someone passes, do people donate money, I can understand a
donations for a spouse as the living survivor will have a hardship with the
income coming in by why children?

Same with insurance, why?
