I agree in theory. I bought the best die-hard gold battery that sears had when mine went toes up [no place local sold optima's]. But for expendables [wear items] like shocks, there has to be a price point at which paying more does not give you a commensurate increase in performance or value. I agree that the adjustable shocks are cool, but am I likely to ever crawl up under my truck to mess with them... not likely. So adjustables would be a waste of money [for me] Even the cheapest POS shocks I can find, most likely are better than the leaking stockers I have on there now, but what I am looking for is the most bang for my limited bucks...

The only thing that I can tell you is that you get what you pay for. I have
made it my personal policy to get the very best, but to find the best price
that I can on it.

Looking at my local autozone, they have:
Gabriel gas - $20@
Sport ryder - $20@
3 kinds of Trailmaster - $35-60@
and a bilstein for $70

In theory, the $20 shocks ought to be better than my 81k mile stock shocks
Right? My street has 14 speedbumps between my house and the main drag, so
whatever shock I get is going to die an early death, so I am hesatant to
spend the big $$ for the "brand name" shocks if there isn't a demonstrable
difference in either ride or longevity.

I have Edelbrocks, just love them. Huge difference in the ride. Mine is a

Okay, I am at the point where I need new shocks. At 83K, the stockers are
still on there (YUCK), and I am looking for a good, moderately priced shock.
I have always liked the KYB Gas-A-Just on my cars, but am open to something
else. I am not prepared to spend $100 a shock, maybe $50 a piece - MAX. Any
suggestions? I have looked at Bilstein's site, KYB's site, Pro-Comp's site,
and Rancho's - I am still undecided!!!! HELP!
