I have never cared if ANYONE agreed with me. In fact, I prefer they don't.
I was not seeking agreement, just making an observation.
Yawn....scratch....

Obviously, this is not going to get resolved; the only thing I can
say is that you are using the terms incorrectly. Of the bazillion
people who have posted in this thread, nobody has agreed with you -
that has to say *something*. :-)
I think that the problem is you are looking at the results of
using the starting bid and the reserve, as they apply to e-bay,
and are using the terms interchangeably because in this case,
they essentially do result in the same net effect. However, the
terms are most definitely not interchangeable, they refer to
different things. Its sort've like saying a throttle body and
a carbeurator are the same thing. Sure, to an observer, both
have plates, they are connected to the throttle, when you hit
the pedal, the plates open up and the engine revs up. BUT,
while they do similar things on some respects, they are different
in others (throttle body only meters air, not fuel, etc.) so
although they are similar, it is most definitely wrong to say that
a throttle body and a carbeurator are the same thing. Just as it
is wrong to say that a starting bid and a reserve price are the
same thing.
As far as being wound up about it - it is a natrual inclination of
the folks on this list to correct wrong information when they see it.
It is naturally a tad frustrating to watch somebody who isn't seeing
the whole situation continue to hold to an obviously incorrect
position. :-)
