Have the same problem on my '00 dak 2x2 no mudding here but I have 70K
clocked on the odometer and have determined that my ball joints are the
culprit. The uppers that is. I have not been able to locate any MOOG and so
haven't did the swap. It is a real pain, not like it used to be they are not
pressed in rather they are riveted to the upper A-arm. :-( gonna take some
ingenuity to get the swap down and with summer fastly approaching and the
beach so close don't want to start that repair. It is not too bad it is an
intermittent pop noise.
I would check your balljoints. I have the exact noise. Hope that shed some
light for ya
