Porsche 911's use large cross-drilled rotors fore and aft. The reason
according to Porsche, is that under heavy braking, the intense heat generated
creates a gas between pads and rotors thus "pushing back" on the pads. The drilling
allows the gas to escape. Makes perfect sense to me. Seems to work, too.
