actually I towed this same car with my old '97 2.5L a few years ago with no
problems using a tow bar, except I couldn't hit 5th gear...

I don't have a class III hitch though, uhaul says any 3500# cap hitch or
larger, I don't plan to tow more than my small snowmobile trailer
normally...

you have a class III hitch, you are fine. Tow dolly's or trailers work
better than tow bars (that bolt onto the front bumper) but your Dak should
be up to the task reguardless (as long as you are prudent about towing and
aren't trying for a speed record...)
