My '99 came with 3.55s standard (and even when I ordered the '03 the
3.92 had to be marked in the option column - both 4x4s) and had the 8
1/4 rear end.
The rear end you're issued is based on the drivetrain. Had my '99 been
a manual, I'd have gotten the larger one (Dakota's '98 is identical to
my '99 except he had a stick and the larger rear end). My '03 has the 9
1/4 because I have the combination of V8, stick, 4x4 and 3.92.
