the easy answer is your readout is low.
the explanation: larger tires have a larger circumference. they cover
more ground per rotation than your badyears did. if your 255/65-15s
(these are completely made up numbers) turned 100 revolutions per mile,
your 31s might turn 80. therefore your computer would think 1 mile =
100 revs, when in reality 100 revs is on the shy side of 1.2 miles.
MPG = Miles / Gallons
therefore artificially low miles over the same gallons makes a lower
number than it ought to.
