Just a few facts - the R/T package was an addon to any 5.9L (or 5.2L).
It consists of a PCM, Headers, Cam, and something else - maybe an air
filter or exhaust/muffler. The 5.9L block was the same in all Ram,
Dakota, Van, other models - even the Indy 500 Pace Truck Ram or
"IndyRam". The IndyRam was mostly an appearance package with only a
Dynomax UltraFlo muffler and 3" catback to enhance performance over a
stock Ram truck w/5.9L. To see if your IndyRam has the "R/T package" -
I would look at the entire exhaust system and the p/n on the pcm. You
can't really tell if the cam is in there other than possibly the idle
which I can tell quite easily mostly because I have two IndyRam's - one
with the R/T package and one that is bone stock. It is true that not
all IndyRams are alike - for example, of the 2,802 produced - 150 were
identically configured and licensed to a company to provide these trucks
for support vehicles at the 1996 Indianapolis 500 on May 26, 1996. I
have number 142 (the bone stock truck). Others have been delivered to
the dealerships with many extras including the R/T package, several
variations of single and dual exhaust configurations, with and without
paint-matched and striped hard tonneau covers, roll pans and bumpers,
sliding rear glass or not, and many other variations.
If I were just purchasing my first new IndyRam, I would leave it alone
because it is very difficult to beat the stock 14.5-15.5 times. I have
several thousand dollars in addons to enhance one IndyRam's performance
and durability and I would hate to race my stock truck in the 1/8th
mile. Of course I would smoke it in the 1/4. 8-)
