I drove a 4.7L Ram QC, 6.5' bed, one day (loaner from the Line-X shop)
and the sucker is HUGE. I love the idea of having all that HEMI power
but there's no way I could manage a truck that big on a daily basis.

That particular truck was a dog too; I assume it had 3.55 gears in it,
it could not accelerate at all compared to my Dak (3.92, stick, and yes
I know it's lighter).

As for power-making goodies on the 4.7, there's all the usual DML mods
(TB, cold air intake/K&N filter, exhaust) plus the HO cams and intake
manifold, but all that will still not get you to your goal of 300
ponies. To get there, as Sir Bill said, you need to go forced-induction
or if you're feeling crazy, N2O.
