discouraging tire measurements

so my "30 x 9.5" Geolandars are actually 29 x 7.75.

I happened to park at full lock before class this evening, so I figured
I'd take a look at what I had.

on the back inside edge of the tire, I seem to have about 1.5" of
clearance.

on the front inside edge of the tire, I have *nothing*. with another
inch and a bit to the bump stop, the tire is just barely rubbing
already. it's no wonder I have clean spots on my frame.

With the tire where it was, I could also see that I ought to crank my
t-bars a bit, since the distance to the droop stop was about 7/8 the
distance to the bump stop - that seems a bit too much sit-in to me, and
would probably explain why I've been bottoming the front end on speed
bumps more often in the last few months. I didn't think they'd
grown....

I'm curious how the factory optional 31 x 10.5s even fit (wait... they
don't come on these rims), and I know that I'll have to see what
different backspacing causes.

of course, my only rim options aside from these are 8" wide, which is
more width than I think is ideal for a tire that's actually only a bit
over 9" wide. obligatory curse.

I think I might have to find a friendly Interco dealer and some
different rims to play with.

I'd like to know the real dimensions of those 33X10.5-15 BFG AT's that
John is running, and if you could, what things look like at full lock -
so I'd have a prayer of knowing what narrower/taller or fatter/shorter
would do, and what real dimension I *know* I can fit since it doesn't
look to me like what you're running ought to fit.

I'm pretty sure AR-767s have 4" backspacing (this is from memory). does
anyone know what backspacing the different Dodge rims have? as far as
I know, there are 15x7, 15x8, 16x8 and 17x8s dodge rims, and not many
others.

If I can backspace right, the Bigass Tires may fit, but since this will
be a high-stress application I don't want less than about 3"
backspacing on an 8" rim - too much leverage is a Bad Thing. breaking
things isn't as fun a way to spend money as improving them... Though
to be honest I don't know just how much more stress the bearings and
axles would get from sticking the tires out versus not - they get
pounded off-road anyway. With the extra diameter I maybe ought to
worry more about twisting axle shafts than wheel bearing life, I
suppose.
