Been following this a little bit... it seems more oil than usual has been
rerouted from normal summer production in order to fill up the strategic
petroleum reserve. It had been getting low, and Congress wanted the USA to
fill its tank back up ;-).
Given the bleed off of normal summer supplies, plus world unrest in general,
it's easy to see why gasoline has been a little higher than usual over the
last couple of months. My prediction is we'll see a drop in prices by the
end of September unless someone really screws the pooch in the MidEast.
Be that as it may, there's a reason we've seen a steady increase in the
price of oil futures since the beginning of June - the SPR refill is why.
