  Thanks for the info Bernd. That definitely rules out it being a ProComp
shock problem. I'm convinced that it's due to a loose bolt, but I'm still
not sure why the bolt is coming loose.

I took a few minutes to browse the RO's at work and did find a few
Dakota's with broken shock bolts. Here's the "Dealership" fix:

Retap/Clean threads, install new bolts with locktight Blue, torque to
80ft.lbs.
