Aaron,
Yes, it is an idler pulley.

Subject: DML: pulley?
Anyone know what the pulley that sits between the alternator and the a/c
compressor on a 3.9 V6 is called? While doing an oil change yesterday I
noticed that something was strange with that pulley. Normally it is shiny
due to the constant contact from the back of the belt. It's no longer shiny
now though. It has all kinds of black specks stuck to it. It's almost as
if pieces of the belt are sticking to it. The belt doesn't look too bad
though. The black stuff won't scrape off with a fingernail, but can be
removed with a pocket knife.
I'm not sure if there's a problem with the pulley (can that pulley go
bad), belt or both, but I plan on replacing both. I need to locate the
pulley though. I'm not sure what it's called....an idler? Any help would
be great.
Thanks.
