Josh,
Depends on the dealer. I had the same thing happen to my Dak the
same summer I bought it. Mine is a 98 and I bought it used from a Ford
dealer in Spring of 2000. That July, a rock went thru the lower valance and
nicked my AC condenser line. The Dodge dealer said normally it wouldn't be
a warranty covered item, but they replaced the condenser and recharged the
system under warranty anyway. Not too bad considering I didn't even buy the
truck from them. What the manufacture's warranty covers is usually
defective parts and damage resulting from design flaws. A rock coming up
and hitting the condenser may be considered an unfortunate accident and is
not the manufactures fault. He may be able to get his insurance company to
cover part of the repair under his comprehensive or collision coverage.
Depends on how much he has to pay for a deductible, but it may be worth
asking his agent about.
