I personally have used it (Father used to be an Amsoil dealer). Didn't
notice any difference in performance, fuel economy, or any of their
"it's the best stuff on the planet" claims. No...not just on my truck
either:
1969 AMC Javelin SST (tested the Amsoil for 6 months - went back to
Castrol)
1989 Nissan 240SX
1984 Dodge D50
1991 Dodge Caravan
1976 Ford Capri (For those who know the car...yes, this one was a Ford,
not a Mercury - 2.6L V6 not the 2.8L V6)
1976 Camaro - BB Chevy Conversion (went back to Redline Synthetic - Ran
better with the Redline)
The Javelin ran for 185K miles without a single hiccup. One of the
factory/original keepers let go and we had decided to rebuild the engine
(really only needed a valve job and the engine internals were in top
shape for that high mileage).
The first four all still have the fuel mileage records (and still in a
notebook) since day-one. No change in mileage and only a loss in the
pocket book. They all went back to Catrol 10w40 as it was less
expensive over the course of one year.
Amsoil may have been the first in the US...but remember what country
orignally introduced synthetic oil (not the US).

Ok,Wait a miniute...no one really has any right knocking the product
unless
they have personally used it.
Amsoil was the first company to market a synthetic oil for automotive
application in 1972.
I personally have been using Amsoil products for over 15 years and have
NEVER had anything go wrong with my vehicles caused by the oil. i would
rather pay alittle more money to get a quality product. one of the
reasons
Amsoil is more than the others is the fact that they use better
quaility
materials to produce their products.
when it comes down to there Multi-level marketing. that way it saves the
middle man from making it over priced. it also helps to keep their cost
down
as far as advertising, distribution. that way it alows the dealers to do
all
of it themselves. that way Amsoil can take the money saved and to
reinvest
it into their product to make them better.
