It's not irrelevant. There are many people who have complained about the
initial lifter tap on startup. This is primarily caused by the oiling
system (in most cases) where there is no, or little, oil in the oiling
system. This is where the drainback valve comes into play.

FWIW, in the case of a 3.9/5.2/5.9 the drain back valve is irrelevent since
the oil can't drain back because of the orientatiopn anyway.
