I am sure it is cable, but The AC appears in other part numbers such as
the metal rods that connect to the tailgate handle that actuate the
releases in the 1998 model year but not for 1997.

My guess would be "Aircraft Cable" - sometimes called "wire rope".
That's what I believe is lurking under the rubberized coating on the
DAKSY.
I bet Jef got a hanger for a Ram. Parts guy probably had both in the
same
drawer...
