I'm with you on this one, Tom. Several years ago I was in a jam and had my '89
Mustang towed to the AAMCO in Ft. Worth, Texas. The clutch cable had snapped,
(or so I thought), and they offered "free" towing. 3 days later, they were
telling me that my clutch, clutch cable, pressure plate, throwout bearing, and
clutch quadrant were all bad and needed replacing. The estimate for all of this
work was about 1600 dollars. I authorized them to replace the quadrant and
clutch cable, which took them 4 more days to finish. When I went to pick up
the car, they said it wasn't driveable because the clutch was so worn you
couldn't engage it. Well, any moron that owns a Mustang with a stock quadrant
knows that to adjust the clutch, you push the pedal down to the floorboard, and
then pull up on it with your foot. I did this while in the shop, got two
clicks from the pedal, and voila! The clutch was adjusted and working fine.
They didn't have much to say about that. After telling my story to several
people, they ALL said "YOU TOOK YOUR CAR TO AAMCO????". Well, I learned my
lesson, and will NEVER, EVER take another vehicle to ANY of their repair
centers.
