Just had a talk with Robert at Powertrain Development seeing as how he was
in the Houston area.
He gave me some good insight into some of the problems with trany. I told
him about the problem I recently had where the clip on the kickdown band
had shattered. His comment was that most of the Dodge tranys he sees come
from the factory with the bands out of adjustment. The RT guys typically
come in with 2nd Gear band burnt because of this problem. Add to that
that the dealer and most trany shops don't really mess with adjusting the
bands any more and you have a formula for premature failure.
Sounds like a very knowledgable guy with lots of experience under his
belt. Oh yeah and he is a Dodge guy himself. I'll be seeing him to get a
TransGo kit added to my newly rebuilt trany soon.
Also from the sounds of it, if you have your trany rebuilt and the guy
doing the work pays attention to the details, you'll have a much better
trany than what you had from the factory.
