I just talked to Hooze 4x4, and Milo there says that the outer ring
gear is a matched set to the planetary, and there's a very good chance
that in the 8 years between when these cases were built NP may have
changed the cut, and that is almost certainly the source of my problem.

so up will go the truck.

apart will come the rear ujoint and out will come the drive shaft

apart will come the front output yoke

out with the fluid

off with the 6 nuts and down with the transfer case.

70# down the stairs

disassembly # 8 [aargh!! snap rings!!]

swap outer rings for the planetaries

and then see where I land.

my forecast time of completion, this time without help: I'll hazard
midnight.
