What I got from the Dodge site was:

Model: Dakota Regular Cab (4.7l M5 3.92 4x2)
Payload Max. 948 kg (2090 lb.) *is higher in other configuration
Towing Max. 2971 kg (6550 lb.)
GVWR 2676 kg (5900 lb.)

Model: Dakota Club Cab (4.7l M5 3.92 4x2)
Payload Max. 658 kg (1450 lb.) *is higher in other configuration
Towing Max. 2926 kg (6450 lb.)
GVWR 2427 kg (5350 lb.)

Model: Dakota QC (4.7l M5 3.92 4x2)
Payload Max. 794 kg (1750 lb.) *is higher in other configuration
Towing Max. 2767 kg (6100 lb.)
GVWR 2726 kg (6010 lb.)

And from Chevy:

Model: Colorado Regular Cab
Payload Max. 682 kg (1503 lb.)
Towing Max. 1814 kg (4000 lb.)
GVWR 2204 kg (4858 lb.)

Model: Colorado Extended Cab
Payload Max. 648 kg (1429 lb.)
Towing Max. 1814 kg (4000 lb.)
GVWR 2268 kg (5000 lb.)

Model: Colorado Crew Cab
Payload Max. 591 kg (1304 lb.)
Towing Max. 1814 kg (4000 lb.)
GVWR 2268 kg (5000 lb.)

So the Dak's beat the Colorado in towing capacity by 2100 lbs (or ~1
ton) at the least and by 2550 lbs. at the most. Not insignificant.

As I said, if they think 50%! of buyers care about this, why not match
or beat the Dodge?

If I stick with the V6 (which they claim the I5 beats) the RC 3.7l A4
3.92 Dak beats the Colorado by 800 pounds (or almost 1/2 ton). The only
cofiguration they beat is the RC 3.7l A4 *3.55* Dak. Maybe their
marketing team can do something with that.
