Andy:
I had the same problem.
Pushing the little latches at each side works, but must be done each time.
The dealer looked at it and lubed the latch pins on the sides of the
tailgate but that didn't fix it.
What finally worked was pulling the handle out of the tailgate and
lubing the pivot in that. There wasn't much drag at all, but it seems
that it only took a little to cause it to stick. The tailgate latch
works like a charm now.
