Don,
Tell your buddy to take his vehicle to the local AutoZone, there's
about 10 of them in or around Ft. Worth. They can check the alternator and
the battery right in the parking lot. Just make sure he takes it in during
daylight hours. A good home test is to get a multi meter and check the
battery voltage with the engine off, it should be about 12-13 volts. Then
start the engine and check the voltage. The alternator should be putting
out 13-14 volts. Also make sure the battery terminals are clean and tight.
