With my '96 5-speed, I used to launch not too far above idle -
maybe 2,000 a the most; just sort've feathered the throttle as
necessary.

My best short time on normal street tires is 2.08, that was on
Firestone Firehawks, 235/70 15. I tried drag radials once, but
they didn't help me out too much because I didn't have a line lock
and couldn't get them to smoke without having them hook and launch
the truck during the burnout. :-) I got a 2.06 with the drag
radials, would have been better no doubt if I had been able to heat
them up properly.
This was a GenII, GenIII may be different. Based on what I
have seen at the tracks, Daks seem to get something in the
neighborhood of a 2.3, 2.4 short time, if you can get into the
2.0 range you're doing pretty good.
