where to get torque converter (my tranny is shot )

took the '92 dak with 46RH to the tranny shop and the guy said
  1. metal flakes in and around the torgue converter.
  2. suspects that the torque converter is falling apart.
  3. he saw some metal shavings near a valve port.
  4. told me he thought the tranny in "Drive" is starting 2nd gear.
( i think this may be true. cause if i shift to
1st gear i get more "punch" like the engine and
tranny are really connected together, but if i leave it
in "Drive" it starts very sluggish. i get pratically
no acceleration until i rev up to 2400+ rpms
then it kicks in and accelerates slowly. )

Questions:
-so what should i pay for a stock t.c. ??
-what would a higher stall like 2300 t.c. cost me?
-any other mods worth while??

* i'm having him install a transgo kit while he has it.
* i asked him to tear it down to where he can inspect it, then call me
so i can view it. we're going to get a rebuild kit and do
a rebuild. keeping the hard parts if possible.
* i asked him to price a higher stall converter.
