SRT-10 vs Lightning Race Story

I came across this on a Dodge truck forum and thought
some of you racers out there might be interested.

I went to the track this past Friday. There was a Dodge day
or something there. There were at least 3 Vipers and maybe
a dozen SRT-4s. AND there was the SRT-10 ViperTruck.
The actual one that was used to break the Guiness World
Record for Top Speed (pickup).

Well my truck being basically stock (I have added a conestyle
K&N filter) I figured here is the Golden opertunity to see Which
of these trucks is in fact the Quater Champion. Now those of
you saying to yourselves -I know you added a ram-air hood too
- let me say to you that it isn't functional yet as I haven't sealed
the system so that the airbox gets pressurized.

Anyway it was 70degrees and there was a fair bit of humidity
(~65%), about a typical South Louisiana day. My truck had been
running anywhere from 13.51 to 13.63 on this night. So the SRT-10
makes it way into the staging lanes for a pass in the left lane and
I quickly got next to it for a pass in the right lane.

The Gods must have been smiling on us as it worked out perfectly
and we were set to race each other. This was a heads up contest
because eliminations hadn't started for the bracket racing yet and
we were running a time trial style pass. So we staged and the lights
came down. And we both left the line without incident. I looked up
and saw that the ViperTruck got a better reaction off the light than
I had (he cut a .023 to my .041 light). I still pulled a considerable
lead on him as I knew I would have to because those trucks should
trap much higher than me. Well at the finish line the race was too
close for me to tell. I mean our trucks were literally in a dead tie
(to the eye). Then I saw that he had the win light!!!

"FUCH!!!!!" I said. Then when I got my time slip I saw that my truck
ran its worste pass of the night at 13.738 but still out ET'd his 13.750:
headbang: . His RT is what gave him the win not his SRT:wink: .
I felt so much better about this race now. I also cut my worste 60' foot
of the night on that pass too with a 2.063 after cutting 1.97's and 1.98's
all night. I guess I may have been a little anxious and overcompensated
for that. Any way the results were that the Lightning was the quicker
Truck:headbang: but the SRT driver cut a better light.

My hats off the Dodge guys, they are a class act. The fellow driving
the SRT-10 didn't have any problems showing or talking about the truck
to anyone interested. I enjoyed the night and look forward to my next
encounter.

Boo Hoo!!!

Never crossed his little mind that just maybe this was the SRT-10s worst
run of the night too.

What's this moaning about reaction times. Without the drivers, trucks just
sit there :-)

Found it interesting that the SRT-10 reeled in the supercharged Ferd :-)
