sounds to me like your bands are a ways out of adjustment. I'd do
fluid change/filter/band adjust if I were you.

if you're worried about horror stories, take it to a dealer you trust.
if they don't know what they're doing, no one does.

The dealer offered 'em to me for $140 each mounted balanced and all, out

the door. So, if you take off the sundries it's like $112 a tire. I
doubt he will go that low cash and carry, but I could ask.

Yea.. Standard flowmaster stuff doesn't stand up too well to harsh
climates, especially if there's salt involved. They do have some
stainless stuff now, though.

I'm really a fan of flowmaster products for two reasons. First, they
sound good. Second, their facilities are just a short hop away from
my house. Lots of those guys are my "neighbors" and I like to support
them.

Go with a simple fluid/filter change and have the bands checked for
adjustment. ATF+4 is the recommended fluid.

Hey there! Question:

We have a 2000 Grand Cherokee 4.0/42RE with 40,000
miles that is doing some wrong stuff all of a sudden.
The other day,I did a U-turn in a parking lot,and lost
drive for about three seconds. Then,it banged into
gear at about 1500 rpm,and took off. Then the next
day,it lost drive for about a second as I pulled off
of my road onto the highway. Both times, the Jeep had
only been running long enough to get fully warm. I
checked the fluid level, and it was right in between
the add/full marks. I added about 1/2-3/4 of a quart
of fluid to make it exactly full, and have been driving
it for about a week now. It has not "slipped" out
anymore, but as I`m cruising down the road I *think* I
can feel something, like it is wanting to slip or
downshift, just ever so slightly. What should I do? My
prior Dak had this transmission, and a mechanic told me
(when it was brand new) I should not fail to have the transmission
flushed out and serviced at 20,000 miles. Well, that Dak didn`t last long
enough to reach that mileage, before I traded for my 2001 Dak. But
ANYWAY,short story long,with the Jeep,the thought of having a
transmission flushed out scares me,because I have heard horror stories
about it being done wrong,or the tranny not living much longer
afterward. Like I said,this is a 2000 model,so I don`t even know if it
is filled with Chrysler`s latest fluid. Should I have it flushed out and
the filter replaced,or what?

Many thanks! Steve P.

I can't be of any help, but we have a grand in the shop now that does
the same exact think. We are trying to figure it out to .

My buddy had the zoomie headers on his 392 hemi powered streetrod done
by
Airborn Coatings in CT and it's a nice job. His are a dull silver color
that
looks good with the polished aluminum intake, blower and valve covers on
the
392. It's been over two years now with no signs of peeling. A lot of the
people
doing custom work in the Boston area recomend them.

"Moog Production Facility Fire

One of Moog's production facilities in Tennessee recently suffered from
a
catastrophic fire. Fortunately no one was injured. But unfortunately
because of
this incident, production and distribution has been slowed. This
especially
affects the owners of certain Dodge vehicles who are looking to replace

Looks like they'll have the Gen IV trucks out before the non-factory

Yeah Tony, I e-mailed Charles last night from my cell phone, was at the
gf's
place and didn't have the link to the guy's site to show what he wanted.

There's plenty of guys here interested in this information, so I'll go
ahead
and post it.

There's a guy in Ocala http://home.earthlink.net/~btm0106/ with a SWEET
lifted
GenII. It's the one I posted pics of from the Florida Mopar Show at
Garlits
place. He's got a GenIII bumper on his '92. He told me you only have
to drill
two holes in each side of the frame to mount it. Everything else lines
up.
Check the web site to see how it looks. I personally think it looks
great.
Kind of put to rest my worries of lining up with the body and all. I'm
planning on going with a GenIII bumper soon. They are made much beefier
than
the aftermarket ones (you saw the results of my rear-end collision on my
FEY/Westin bumper), and you can't find any factory GenII bumpers in good
condition anymore.

I'm running dana ball joints on my truck, I got them from NAPA. IIRC
they
were about $40 each. There are still other options out there, and the
ones
I've got have stood up to heavy usage very well. They still feel much
tighter than the stock ones ever did.

Doing a fluid/filter change would be a good start. If there are issues,
there will be piles of debris in the pan to aid diagnosis.

Hope its a cheap and easy fix.

Only reason I mention the Detroit Diesel is that DC owns it. Its
already
been developed and in the past from what I read on car-truck.com it had
been tested in the Jeep GC and Dakota/Durango.

It would be much cooler to have the Cummins IB4 just to have the Cummins
badging on the side of the Dak. :)

DC
sub-contracted everything to the Ewoks as part of their cost-cutting

I have been through mine in my Dakota and learned a
few things. Mine was doing just what you described,
after a full rebuild it continued doing so. After
some searching and digging I found a tsb refering to
the pressure governing servo. I replaced the servo
and had no problems after that. My trans had about
78,000 miles on it when I did that.

Flowmaster is in, I had my brother take it in to get done while I was at

work. It sounds pretty good, not what I was expecting though... but it
is a
V6 after all. The tip looks great and yes I definately have the bug. I
guess
I'm gonna start brown baggin it to work so I can buy some more goodies!

Questions:

There is a distinctive smell! What is that? It is going away... right?

Do I have to reset the PCM now or should I wait for my Intake?

Should I reset the PCM after every mod?

Happy Barfday dude! I mean birthday hehe -- Great - just what the BBQ

needs - another drunkin lunatic with a 4x4! Woohoo!!

Good luck trying to get a rental car outta the Buffalo area being under
25! That's why I flew home last year. No one would rent to me. And
those who would wanted more than the freakin airplane ticket cost!!

I'll be rolling 23 years old in 4 days... Didn't know your birthday was
so close to mine Mike! I seem to recall you mentioning it before -
maybe when we went out to eat or something... but I'm not running on all

  cylinders so I dont remember.

Enjoy 21 while it lasts... soon you will be an old man like Andy. *flee*

Make me an offer, both in goos shape, hydrolic roller cams really dont
wear
out as long as they were rehardened after grinding. KRC sells the v6
grind
outright for a little over 300 bucks.

Just remeber you will have to change out valve springs and go to an
adjustable rocker or custom length pushrod to properly set the valve
lash/lifter preload with a regrind cam.

The smell will go away after about a day of use (just the metal "burning
in" upon initial heat up).

There is no need to reset the PCM after every modification unless it's a
big one (intake/tb/headers, cam, heads, blower). Since the PCM does
learn on an ongoing basis, resetting the PCM only helps if you made a
big jump (Intake, Exhaust, and/or TB for example). If it's just a
muffler or intake system (or TB)...it only takes about 100 miles for the
PCM to already have a good learn cycle on the new mod (200-400 miles for
a complete driving style learn cycle - whether you reset the PCM or not.

You can if you want to though - just disconnect the negative terminal on
the battery, hold the key in the START position for about 15-20 seconds,
turn the key OFF, and then reconnect the negative terminal. Start the
vehicle and drive away.
