That was the saga on friday. Tonight, I'm glad to report, the neon is
back together and running quite well. A little rough on initial startup,
but the computer was probably having a conniption. I didn't rev the piss
outta it on the test drive, but it seems to run a little better. The new
plugs and air filter probably account for that, though. Other than a
slight misadventure with shearing the timing belt tensioner pulley bracket
bolt off into the block, it all went together fairly smoothly.
Interestingly, there were a few knuckle-shaped dents in the garage drywall
that appeared shortly after that bolt sheared off. Strange, no? ;)
I've never dug this far into an engine, and there sure is a sense of pride
in taking something down to nearly nothing, and then putting it all back
together and having it work like it should. Sure was nerve wracking on
the initial startup. Even better was the penetrating oil burning off
the exhaust. "Oh crap, what's all that smoke?!?!" :O
Now I need to get into the Dak. At least there's room to work on it in
the engine bay.
Dak content: I had to drive around in the Dak to get two new high-grade
bolts and a set of "super outs".
