I have read where the magnum V8 throttle body has positive power results on a
3.9l magnum v6 and that 5.2 and 5.9 engines used the same throttle body. As a
result while yarding on Saturday I pulled the throttle body from a magnum V8
powered van.
When I got home and examined my find I noticed that the V8 throttle lever was
slightly different than the V6.
1. The V6 throttle cable snaps over a ball pivot where the V8 post had a head
the same as the tranny kick down and cruise cables.
2. There was also a guide attached to the V8 throttle body lever arm that
routed the cable differently at partial throttle opening (and the cable did not
attach in the same position on the lever as the v6, the cruise and tranny
cables do). The cable bracket that attaches to the throttle body appears to be
the same as do the map, idle speed motor and throttle poistion sensor.
I have also read that you need to use a V8 throttle cable when making this swap
on a Dakota. Before I run out and purchase one are the differences I describe
the same differences on the Dakota V8 throttle body or does the van have some
unique attributes. Do not know what year the van was, just that it was a 3/4
ton, had the latest generation round front end and the engine was a magnum v8
(do not know if it was 5.2 or 5.9).
If anyone can confirm that all I need to make this swap is a 5.2l magnum V8
Dakota throttle cable and a new gasket I would appreciate it.
Thanks,
Dave Clement
