I guess that guy Murphy must have been a Dakota owner!.......Cuz whatever
could go wrong did go wrong this week!...........Luckily no real damage was
done, Except to my EGO and wallet!

It started out simple enough last friday as a simple R&R of the stock fuel
pump unit for the Holley
255 LPH in-tank pump, I had a local shop near where I work do the job
thinking it would be easier
and less hassle since they do this stuff all the time and have a hydraulic
lift that would make it simple.

How WRONG I was on THAT!.......I'd run the fuel level done to just a few
gallons in the tank so it would be simple to drop the tank and pull the
module...........ok, that part went according to plan!

30 minutes later the tanks down, the modules out and on the work bench and
the tech is taking the module apart (I'm at work as a counterman at the
local NAPA while this work is being done)

The Tech decides after looking the pump module over and the New Holley kit,
that this is the wrong kit, tells his shop foreman That I'm full of @#&% and
that this will not work.....

I get a call at work that this is the wrong pump and it won't work with this
Truck and that they are going to put it back together and I'm to come get
it..........."Ok .....I'll come get it"

I walk over to get my truck, Climb in, hit the key,......WTF!

IT WON'T START!........It finally starts, but it won't rev or move!

I get out, open the hood and attach a fuel pressure gauge.......10 psi-then
25psi that's all it'll make!

Then they say they can't take time to look at it for a couple days due to
other appointments, But they'll garage it for a day till I can make other
arrangements.

Fearing that they destroyed the stock pump module, I get a NEW Mopar pump
relayed from a dealership via a Napa parts transfer from a sister store of
the store I work at.

In the time the pump is being relayed, (Next day) I have a friend with a
contact who has a flatbed pick the Dak up at a service station I managed to
limp it to after I had to get it off the shop's property that initially
botched the job.

He delivers it to a another shop that used to be a Dodge dealer and my pal
Chip garages it for the night and will look at it the next day.

Chip decides to R&R the stock pump for the NEW stock pump after he
determined that they had damaged the original pump module putting it back
together........(I wanted to know why it wouldn't run after they put it
together, and so did he)

OK!........New pumps is in!..........it still won't start!..........and Runs
very BADLY!

Now I'm getting very ANGRY!..........Chip's tech Nudy Trefio runs a check
with the DRB-3, we have spark, signal to the cam and crankshaft position
sensor is good, It's running lean......NO FUEL still!

We check further.........Found the problem!........The Fuel pump unit for
the Supercharger has burned out due to no fuel from the tank getting to it
or at least enough to cool the pump and get the Dak running.........Chip
decides he doesn't want go into it any further!

Nudy confirms that the New Mopar pump is working and that the step up pump
is the problem now.

I called a friend who has yet another shop, (this guy did my original
install of my Supercharger) he arranges for a New pump from Powerdyne to be
OVERNITED for tomorrow and is going to Flatbed the Dakota to his shop where
he say's he'll fix it..........it should be back in running condition on
Friday.

I estimate that a simple install of a hi-volume pump that should have cost
me about $220.00 installed
has cost me almost $700.00-$800.00 and I still have the stock volume
system..........

To offset some of the expense, I had to send the Holley pump back for a
refund so I could get the Dakota running again.

"And these are the Day's of our lives!"

Hey!.......I still have my sense of Humor!
