Speaking of hybrids, I happened to see an interesting blurb
in the latest Car & Driver as I was flipping through it at lunch
today. It seems Lexus is using hybrid technology for increased
performance, as opposed to fuel economy. (Well, more accurately,
high performance with a lower fuel consumption than might
otherwise be expected.) Basically what they are doing is to
create a 600hp vehicle by using a 400hp gas engine, with an
additional 200hp added via the hybrid system. There weren't
any details as far as how this actually all works together,
but I would guess that the car normally runs on the gas engine
with the electrics kicking in for that extra little punch?
I thought it was an interesting idea - I hadn't before considered
hybrid technology to be in the same realm as a 200hp nitrous
shot. :-)
