I am about to arrive at the conclusion that this is "normal." The manual
transmission makes it worse. I went out and checked again for intake leaks.
I couldn't completely cover the TB with my hand, but I threw a piece of
plastic on top of the TB and it killed the engine instantly. I've tried
every type of muffler and pipe configuration imaginable. I had a couple of
resonator tips on the back that seemed to help a little. I put a Magnaflow
on it a couple of weeks ago, and I love the sound, but the backfire is more
prevalent. I guess I'll just learn to live with it.
