Clutch Fan Questions

Last week I started loosing coolant and it intially appeared to be coming from
the water pump seal so i picked up a new pump and was prepared to replace it.
Once I got into the disassembly some it turned out to be the by-pass hose had a
pin hole and the coolant wasrunning down the front of the pump and was being
flung by the pulley. Easy fix and back on the road in a hour. :)

Anyway, now for the clutch fan questions (Oh Yea, 99 Magnum 3.9);

1. How does one hold the water pump from truning so you can loosen the large
nut that holds the clutch fan assembly to the water pump? Looks like you need
to use some sort of strap wrench to hold the pulling but it seems like it's
likely to slip if the nut is tight. What has the group done to take this apart?

2. The shaft going inside the clutch on my truck has quite a bit of slop in it
(out at the fan blade tips you can rock them forward and back about 3/8".
Doesn't seem to wobble when running and there is no fluid leaking from the
clutch but I am concerned that the clutch is not releasing when it should. Any
words of wisdom?

Thanks in advance!
