Optima red tops are just standard starting batteries - the yellow/blue
are deep cycle/marine deep cycle.
The design of the battery is what allows it to last so much longer than
standard lead acid batteries. Not only does it withstand more
discharge/recharge cycles, and recover from total discharge better, but
the spiral "paste" design allows for safer operation, leak proof, and
virtually gas free. Can be mounted in any position.
While a Red top can cycle dead and charge again more times and recover
faster than lead/acid, its not recommended for deep cycle applications
or heavy load applications, (plowing, utility lighting, powerful sound
systems, etc - as its designed to be a starting battery only.
