Probably detonation that wasn't heard...over the past two years. With the
Nitrous, Boost, and combination of both (and the loud exhaust), it's really
hard to hear the minor "pinging" (not so minor now eh?).

I've got the PCM set now to no more than 36 degrees with 4 degrees of retard
right out of the hole (thanks to the DRB at work). Detonation shouldn't be
a problem once the engine is back together as the chambers are being
polished (completely this time) as well as more accurate fuel and timing
control. Rings shouldn't be a problem either with the much higher quality
selected this time.

It'll be about 2-3 months before the "gas" is back on the truck as the break
in period will take about that long. Will have it to the dyno after the
break-in as well to see where it stands on HP/TQ - should be interesting
with the 10:1 slugs now.
