Re: Towing harness question

Thanks for all the suggestions. I'm going to look at it again this weekend. I
did buy a harness that just plugs in to the existing wiring. And maybe that is
why the backup lights come on? When I use a test light, I get just what you
would expect out of the harness. I took a battery and put 12v to the trailer
lights and everything is ok. It just seems to happen when the two are
connected and there is more of a load on the system. I am going to make sure I
have a very good ground before I go any further.

As to the R/T towing questions, I can answer all of those. Yes, the 98-99's
stated you could tow 6,400 lbs. I bought a '99 and in Sept. of 1999, DC sent
me a letter saying that it was just a "typo" and that they really could only
tow 2,000. Even though the brochure showed a R/T towning a big boat that was
clearly more than 2,000 lbs. There were a few R/T guys that filed a
class-action, and not long after that DC, offered to either buy back the truck
for what I paid, purchase any new DC vehicle for the sticker price of what my
truck was when it was new, or $500 in Mopar parts. I got a 2000 R/T, it still
couldn't tow more than 2000 lbs. but it was a year newer. That one was a
lemon, it burnt oil about 1 quart per 750 miles. Three R/T later and I still
can't tow more than 2,000 lbs., but that is why I only have a small trailer to
haul a couple of snowmobiles with, well under 2,000 lbs. The main reason that
R/Ts couldn't tow was that they had a 1" lower ride height and with the added
weight the rear axle would bottom out and could cause damage to the axle or
even break the axle tubes. I don't know if I believe all of that or not but
that was DC's answer.
