is moving. So I figure it's the u-joints. Then I back it up and
pull
forward. Check it again and the driveshaft is tight. So could it
be
something else?? It makes a terrible grinding noise now. I am a
little
worried it could be something else. It seems like there is play
in the
tranny end. A little background. It's a CC, so 2 piece
driveshaft, V6, auto.

143k miles on it and everything in the driveline is original
except the
tranny has about 18k miles on it. Any help is appreciated...

Hey Mike,
I've had a lot of problems with my Dak this year, U joints being one of
them. It's hard to diagnose a sound over the internet! They kind of make a
"clank" noise when they are bad, and with the two-piece driveshaft can
actually be a little bit difficult to diagnose. I recently had all three
sets replaced in my driveshaft, and it ran me 125 bucks total.

You mention a grinding noise though. I don't want to make you worry, but
that's what mine did when my differential bit the dust. Like grinding when
you make a turn, or when backing up. I'd recommend pulling your inspection
plate on the diff and doing a visual check. If it's bad, there will be a
TON of metal shavings in the bottom of the pumpkin. Mine needed a whole new
gear set, plus all the other rebuild stuff. I stuck a low-mile diff from a
'97 in mine in March because it was so damned expensive to rebuild mine.
The majority of parts in it are press-fit, and that runs up the machine shop
costs.

Keep us posted on what you find out, and Good Luck!
